Strategen lead environmental assessments

6 Apr 2017

Over the past six months, three out of the last five environmental assessments on the Environment Protection Authority's (EPA) Consultation Hub were prepared by Strategen. These assessments were for varied and complex projects, all of which presented unique challenges.  All three were successfully delivered for our clients in terms of outcomes, timing and budget.

PUBLIC ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW FOR A TYRE RESOURCE RECOVERY

Requiring input from our in-house technical expert in air quality and process engineering, this Public Environmental Review (PER) was for a project that diverts tyres from landfill to extract useable products such as oil and carbon.  Extensive agency and stakeholder consultation was undertaken prior to referral of the project to the EPA.  Prepared in an incredibly tight time-frame, the PER received very few comments.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW FOR SINO IRON MINE CONTINUATION PROPOSAL

Strategen prepared a thorough Environmental Review document for the Sino Iron Mine Continuation Proposal (a substantial expansion of their existing operations).  This assessment focused on the management of water and vegetation impacts associated with the expansion of the mine operation.  The assessment was completed in a very short amount of time without an Environmental Scoping Document.

PUBLIC ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW FOR OCEAN REEF MARINA

Strategen has been working closely with the City of Joondalup on the Ocean Reef Marina Proposal to prepare a Public Environmental Review for the Ocean Reef Marina.  The PER considered the location of the project within Marmion Marine Park and potential changes to coastal processes, water quality and benthic habitat.  Extensive agency and stakeholder engagement has been undertaken to identify key issues and potential mitigation options to ensure the project delivers an acceptable environmental outcome.

These three environmental review documents were all prepared during a time where there have been substantial changes in the EPA assessment process.  Through our understanding of the new procedures, Strategen was able to work within the updated guidelines, keep our clients informed of the changes and do so without any timeline delays.

Strategen has established a reputation over the past 22 years, for being one of the leading environmental approvals specialists within Western Australia and our team are extremely dedicated and proud to continue that today.
