Drakaea elastica survey time
10 Jul 2017
The best time for targeted surveys of Drakaea elastica (glossy-leafed hammer orchid), listed as Threatened under both the WC and EPBC Acts, is during the months of July and early August. At this time, the distinctive glossy green leaves are at their freshest, making the orchid much easier to identify.
The species is known from the Swan Coastal Plain, in low-lying areas alongside winter-wet swamps and flats, typically in banksia woodland or spearwood thicket vegetation.
If your project requires any vegetation clearing within potential Drakaea elastica habitat, a targeted survey will be required. Strategen’s ecologists can help – call us on 9380 3100.
